Spinal Reconstruction Blues (2019)

I had so much fun writing this song, recording it, and making the crazy video that accompanies it, I hope you enjoy it too.

This song is very meaningful to me because it was inspired (at least the first two verses were) by an actual spinal surgery I had in 2014, which was a very tough year for me for many other reasons as well. I came up with the title before I came up with any music or lyrics, but those came in due course as well. When I had a basic song and one day in 2015 Faz - the guitarist for my band MegalomaniA - and I went to Labrador Park in Singapore to record a few acoustic demos, including Spinal Reconstruction Blues. After we went home, Faz spent some time to add solo guitar and bass to the tracks. Two of the demos were very nice, but the work he did for the demo for Spinal Reconstruction Blues was outstanding. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Later on MegalomaniA did an electric version of Spinal Reconstruction Blues, which appears on the EP Escape The World, but I somehow always loved the acoustic demo that Faz pulled off so nonchalantly. So this year when I was recording my solo album I asked Faz if he would kindly come into the studio to repeat what he'd done in 2015; he immediately agreed, and pulled it off once again without a hitch. What a guy! Thanks forever, Faz!!
